HKG Internship Program was offered

Date Feb. 19-23, 2018
Detail International students joined a one-week internship program organized by the “Glocal Hatara-Kurasu Gunma” Consortium in collaboration with Sanden Holdings Corporation. The participants included international students from India, Sri Lanka, China, and Vietnam. This was the first internship program designed exclusively for international students. The outcomes were reported on the last day of the program.

“Kick-off Seminar for Job Search: A “Seminar for the Last-minute Measures prior to the ‘Exchange Meeting with Business Personnel’” was held as part of the collaborative program with Gunma Prefecture.

Detail At the Showa building of the Gunma Prefectural Government, a “Seminar for the Last-minute Measures prior to the ‘Exchange Meeting with Business Personnel’” was held as part of the Kick-off Seminar for Job Search. After the seminar, the international students joined the “Exchange Meeting with Business Personnel” and exchanged their opinions with representatives from the companies that are interested in employing foreign students. The meeting was organized by Gunma Prefecture in collaboration with the “Glocal Hatara-Kurasu Gunma” Consortium.

Step-up Seminar for Job Search was held with the cooperation of Sanden Holdings Corporation (consortium member) at their facilities.

Detail “Step-up Seminar for Job Search” was organized mainly for the international students who attended the “Kick-off Seminar for Job Search” conducted in FY2016 and FY2017, and was held with the cooperation of with Sanden Holdings Corporation. The seminar attendees deepened their understanding of companies, a key factor in job search, by learning about Sanden Holdings as a sample case. On the last day of the seminar, the participants practiced self-introduction and were interviewed regarding what they had learned about the company.

“Business Etiquette Lesson” was conducted as part of the Kick-off Seminar for Job Search

Date Dec. 27, 2017 and Jan. 5, 2018
Detail The lesson was conducted jointly by a professional lecturer who provides business etiquette lessons at companies and facilitators (faculty staff from consortium member universities) who have the experience of studying abroad and who serve as interpreters and cultural go-betweens communicating the viewpoint of international students. The lesson was conducted in such a way that the participants could learn while their questions about Japanese business etiquettes were being answered. After the lesson, individual consultations were arranged so that they could express their concerns and doubts not only about job search but also about campus life.

The 4th “Promotion of Diverse Living” Project was held.

Date Dec. 2, 2017
Detail The “Promotion of Diverse Living” Project held its 4th workshop in December. An interior coordinator, who is also a member of the Gunma Interior Coordinator Comfort, delivered a lecture on the theme “For comfortable living: Interiors and Scents,” where the participants personally experienced several aromas, understood their appeal, and thought about spiritually enriched living. After the workshop, international and Japanese students exchanged their opinions about comfortable living environments based on their learnings and personal experiences in their daily life. They enjoyed this opportunity for cultural exchange.

The 3rd “Promotion of Diverse Living” Project was held.

Detail The “Promotion of Diverse Living” Project held its 3rd workshop in November. While delivering a lecture on the theme “Safe and Secure in Gunma: What is Necessary to Protect Your Living,” a lecturer from the Gunma Prefectural Police Headquarters, who is also a “Glocal Hatara-Kurasu” consortium member, talked about the current status of crime and countermeasures in the prefecture. He also talked about the efforts made to help foreign residents use police stations and reporting tools (e.g., three-way call, communication support board). The participants actually used some tools.

The 2nd “Promotion of Diverse Living” Project was held.

Detail The “Promotion of Diverse Living” Project held its 2nd workshop in October. A guest lecturer, who is a Seiri-Shuno Sawa Method advisor, delivered a lecture on the theme “Clean Home, Bright Smile,” and talked about quick and easy clean-up that you can start from today.

Detail GLLP Kawaba Internship will be held under the 2017 Global Leadership Program. In this program, a total of 28 international and Japanese students from undergraduate or graduate schools in the prefecture as well as outside it will stay for a week at Kawaba-mura, Tone-gun, Gunma Prefecture. During the stay, they will work as interns at local companies and organizations to discover local potential and explore how such resources can be promoted worldwide.

The 1st “Promotion of Diverse Living” Project) was held.

Detail The “Promotion of Diverse Living” Project held its 1st workshop on the theme “Gunma is delicious!” In the morning session, the participants learned how to cook using Gunma food materials from a managerial dietician and in the afternoon session, they visited the company that produces such food stuff to have a production site tour and deepen their understanding of local produce.

Detail The “Kick-off Seminar for Job Search” was held for four days between February 14 and 20. A total of 20 international students from five universities among the consortium members attended lectures delivered by faculty member(s) of such member institutes and deepened their understanding of job search through a workshop and a discussion. On the final day, in the closing event, they joined the “Exchange Meeting between International Students and Local Businesses,” organized by Gunma Prefecture, where they practiced self-introduction and gathered information to deepen their understanding of business organizations.

Detail On September 5 and 19, a sightseeing monitoring tour of Gunma-Kawaba was organized for international students. The participants, together with GLLP Internship students, followed the tourist route to experience the energy of Kawaba-mura.

Detail The Glocal Leadership Program (GLLP) in Kawaba will start in September. GLLP is intended to increase the sustainability of local natural, cultural, and environmental resources and promote the regional development of the next-generation leaders who can utilize such local resources as tourism and industry resources with further global development in mind. As part of the program, a “Sightseeing Monitoring Tour of Gunma-Kawaba for International Students (one day)” and “GLLP Internship for Glocal Development of the Community (7 days)” will start on September 5.
