Employment Promotion Program for International Students

Activities

To foster talented international students who can actively lead local industries in Gunma as glocal leaders Glocal Leadership Program (GLLP) Improvement of “special program” curriculum

The requirements mandated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for the Program for Enhancing Employment of International Students are as described below.
The GLLP program covers two specific initiatives: 1) to foster talented international students who can actively lead local industries in Gunma as glocal leaders, and; 2) to increase the number of companies that employ and retain international students. This section describes the three requirements that fall under item 1) above.

  • 1. Develop and implement educational programs “Business Japanese”, “Career education”, “Internship program”
  • 2. Organize job search seminars, etc., open to students attending universities in the area
  • 3. Open the programs in item 1 to students at other consortium universities, to the extent possible (distance learning, etc.)
  • 4. Support companies that have little experiences in accepting international students
  • 5. Develop sustainable schemes/frameworks

1. Develop and implement educational programs

2. Organize job search seminars, etc., open to students attending universities in the area

3. Open the programs in item 1 to students at other consortium universities, to the extent possible (distance learning, etc.)

The programs in item 1 above are open to students at higher education institutions that are consortium members (consortium universities). The Curriculum Working Group of faculty members from the consortium universities discuss the planning and administration of the programs, and implement them. The consortium universities can provide lectures independently, under the philosophy and policy of the Glocal Leadership Program (GLLP). For example, Gunma University provides lectures on the three programs above to undergraduate and graduate students as academic credit courses, making them available to students in all undergraduate and graduate courses (master’s courses). Other consortium universities can use a credit transfer system with Gunma University. As for “Business Japanese,” none of the consortium universities has instructors specializing in this field, and thus e-learning materials will be developed and shared.
