Career Education

SDGs

Career education is characterized by: (1) course selectability depending on a particular job search stage; (2) continuing dialogue between international students and companies, to create opportunities for self-analysis and company analysis by using “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” as a guideline, and; (3) relation-building, for international and Japanese students to learn from each other, communicate in Japanese, and hold discussions.

Basic education (common lecture)

Town planning and glocal communication

Glocal area revitalization and companies

The career education course teaches the philosophy of the SDGs by using actual cases to nurture “talented people who love Gunma and can contribute to the increased sustainability of Gunma in terms of society, the economy, culture, and other aspects,” which is one of the images of the talented people to be fostered. Students first analyze their own specialty, interest, and values, and then think about how such talents can be used in the world, in their home country, and in Gunma, 10 or 20 years later. They further analyze what job or company they should choose in order to demonstrate their talents, and try to describe their findings. Both courses require students to take this lecture, which is designed as a joint lesson. After this basic education, the career education officially starts as applied education that depends on a job search stage.

Students plan and undertake projects to increase area or community sustainability together with various local stakeholders, including companies, municipalities, and residents. Through such practical experiences, they improve their communication skills and leadership abilities necessary for project planning and administration. They can also expand their human networks in the area or community through the experiences of working together towards one goal.

Glocal area revitalization and companies

Students engage in company study from various perspectives, including SDG initiatives and diversity promotion, reviewing companies which are based in Gunma and promote overseas expansion. Through the opportunities to meet business owners and employees and to visit companies, students deepen their understanding of Japanese companies. They also examine their aptitude for a particular company philosophy or initiative.

- All participants (100%) said that their “interest in and love of Gunma and intention of working locally have further increased.”
- As for “Business Japanese,” it was revealed that the use of honorific expressions and expressing a suitable level of friendliness and formality when using Japanese would be a challenge. This result will be reflected.
